Do I need a referral for my consultation?
No referral is required to see an optometrist. You can book an appointment with us directly for both routine eye examinations and concerns about your eye health.
All 3 of our optometrists are therapeutically endorsed by the Optometry Board of Australia. This means that we can diagnose and treat a range of eye conditions, including dry eye, eye infections, and inflammation, and prescribe prescription eye medications when needed, often without the need to see your GP first.
If your eye condition requires treatment beyond the scope of optometry, we’ll arrange a referral to the appropriate specialist to ensure you receive the care you need.
How often should I get my eyes checked?
For most adults, an eye examination every 2 years is recommended.
If you’re over 65, have diabetes, a family history of eye disease, or an existing eye condition, you may need more frequent check-ups as advised by your optometrist.
Even if your vision seems normal, regular eye tests can detect conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration before symptoms appear.
If you experience sudden vision changes, flashes, floaters, eye pain, or other concerning symptoms, book an appointment as soon as possible rather than waiting for your next routine eye test.
What does an eye examination involve?
At Eyes & Optics, our eye examinations go beyond checking how clearly you can see. Your appointment will take approximately 45 minutes as we take a comprehensive approach to assessing both your vision and your overall eye health.
During your appointment, we will assess your vision, how well your eyes work together, and how effectively your eyes and brain process visual information. We will also perform detailed eye health checks to identify any signs of eye conditions and provide advice tailored to your individual needs. We may also useadvanced diagnostic technology, including detailed imaging of your eyes. These images help us evaluate the health of your eyes, detect any changes, and monitor your eye health over time.

How long does it take to get my glasses?
The time it takes to receive your glasses depends on your prescription, lens type, and frame choice. Standard prescriptions are typically ready within 10 business days.
We’ll let you know as soon as your glasses are ready for collection.

Can I use my health fund?
Absolutely! We offer HICAPS claiming in-store, allowing you to claim eligible private health insurance optical benefits on the spot with most major Australian health funds.
Simply bring your health fund card to your appointment. The rebate is processed instantly, and you’ll only need to pay any remaining balance after your eligible benefits have been applied.

Do you offer paediatric eye care?
Yes. All 3 of our optometrists are trained in paediatric eye care and provide comprehensive eye examinations for children. We assess your child’s vision, eye health, and visual development in a friendly, comfortable environment, helping to detect and manage any vision concerns early. If you have any questions about your child’s eye health, our team is here to help.
At what age should my child get their eyes tested?
Children should have their first comprehensive eye examination before starting school, ideally between 3 and 5 years of age. Early eye tests can detect vision problems that may affect learning and development, even if your child isn’t showing any obvious symptoms.
If you have a strong family history of eye conditions or notice your child squinting, sitting very close to screens, rubbing their eyes frequently, or complaining of headaches and blurred vision, it’s a good idea to book an eye examination sooner.
